QUARTETTO WERTHER IN ROME DEBUTING AT TEATRO ARGENTINA FOR ACCADEMIA FILARMONICA ROMANA WITH A PREMIERE BY FRANCESCO ANTONIONI

Quartetto Werther again in Rome for an important debut at Teatro Argentina on December, 4th 2025 at 9pm.

Gustav Mahler wrote his only Quartet for Piano and Strings as a conservatory exam at the age of sixteen, but left it unfinished: a piece rich in Brahmsian sensations, permeated by a constant narrative tension, where three themes of delicate yet poignant beauty follow one another cyclically. Rediscovered in 1964, this torso was “completed” in 1988 by Soviet composer Alfred Schnittke, who adapted it to a completely new structure and language. The Werther Quartet, making its debut at the Teatro Argentina, offers the Filarmonica audience an immersive experience in the still-surprising story of this encounter, also performing Brahms’s tormented and marvelous Piano Quartet No. 3 and a new composition “Movimento di quartetto” commissioned for the occasion by the Filarmonica Romana from Francesco Antonioni.

GOMALAN BRASS IN ROVERETO AT TEATRO ZANDONAI FOR SETTENOVECENTO FESTIVAL

Shostakovich nel pallone

An uncommon story of Soviet life.

Dmitry Shostakovich was not only one of the greatest musicians of the twentieth century, but also a knowledgeable football enthusiast. Through his comments and sporting recollections, we reconstruct a slice of Soviet history (between the 1930s and 1960s) populated by often unwieldy characters. In this tale, based on real facts and imaginary reflections, the stories of Nikolai Starostin and Lev Yashin, two celebrated footballers who were not equally successful, intertwine with that of Shostakovich, a composer in constant public and private conflict with political power.

Gomalan Brass Quintet and actor Sebastiano Bronzato will will lead the audience by the hand into the world and music of Shostakovich on September 20th, 2025 8:30 pm at the beautiful Teatro Zandonai in Rovereto for the 2025 edition of Settenovecento Festival.
